How you can help Gigi

The first step is learning all you can about feline diabetes.
I had never heard of it before but know now that the symptoms are very similar to diabetes in humans.
Cats gain weight, drink and urinate a lot more.
Gigi had always been very happy and loved a lot of people food.
His favorite was Angel Food cake.

We have to restrict what he eats now, but like humans, he does get treats at holidays or on his birthday.

The next step is to try to find a cure. You can help by donating to find a cure.
I am asking for help with Gigi but I understand there are many more cats who have many more needs.
All I ask is that if you choose not to donate to help Gigi, then please donate what you can to the humane society or the feline diabetes organization through the links on this site.
Help is help no matter where it goes and I hope you'll say a prayer that one day fur children like mine won't have to suffer and be at the mercy of drugs to keep them alive.
God bless each and everyone who takes the time to read this website.
Remember, when a cure is found for human diabetes, the cure for the feline kind won't be far behind.

Gigi is a Tuxedo cat.
Whether this makes him a more likely candidate for diabetes we aren't sure.

Our vet has told us that the insulin that Gigi needs every day, PZI VET (Potamine Znc insulin) is possibly going to stop being manufactured and when that happens a lot of cats with diabetes may have to resort to human insulin.
Since most vets do not know what this change will do to the cats taking PSI, every cat owner with insulin need is starting to worry.
Some vets are actually starting to stockpile insulin though it doesn't have a very long shelf life in an effort to plan ahead.

But Insulin isn't cheap. ONE BOTTLE IS 10ML AND USUALLY LASTS ABOUT 6 WEEKS FOR $124.99. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO HIS NEEDLES, TEST STRIPS AND METER AND HIS TWO PRESCRIPTIONS. HIS VET TESTS EVERY 3 TO 6 MONTHS HAVE RUN  AT LEAST $300.00.
